Bring it on: All or nothing

Like the popular teen movie, with tomorrow being the first of October, it is time to kick in into high gear as college applications are almost due.

New changes are gradually taking place with all things journalism related as well. After a rainy week, I am heading into next month full of optimism. The Multimedia Club is close to production and working for newspapers is a nice reward when your work is shown for everyone to see.

Next week is also a huge sports week, and yes I am writing this after reading Greg Cote's Miami Herald Sports Blog. Monday is Dolphins vs. Patriots followed by Heat vs. Pistons on Tuesday. Yes, Miami Thrice versus a bunch of aging players. The week rounds out with Miami vs. Florida State, quite a treat indeed.

Of course, college hits me again with the SAT on the 9th, but I'll be ready.

Most of this upcoming weekend will be spent reading for AP English, but John Updike's "Terrorist" is a nice read so far. Movie wise, I originally shot down "The Social Network," which is entertaining I will admit, but certainly is not the best movie of the year.

I'll try not to wait 10 days for another blog post, stay tuned!

Off to the races

A great way to start the week.

Well technically, the week started yesterday, so with that I'll start off by saying what a great win by the Miami Dolphins. The defense was absolutely outstanding, the offense needs work but Revis Island is out two weeks, so that's a nice break for Miami.

Today was the first Multimedia Club meeting, the turnout was great, a small, close-knit group of students that I'm looking forward to working with. There are quite a few TV Production students but they're on top of their game and I'm looking forward to everyone combining their skills into creating "The Storm."

I had another byline in the Miami Herald Aventura section this past Friday, honestly, I don't know where I have to time to do all this writing. I will be covering "The Social Network" tomorrow as the weekly movie screening is something I can get used to. In the past I used to get those free movie screenings online, but I'm moving up in the world.

I am still working on other things as well this week, a couple of in-depth stories will have some updates soon, so I am looking forward to the turnout on those stories. College applications are time consuming, lengthy and worry-some at times, but I believe it is important to never doubt yourself.

With that, I'm off to the races again. I have a Physics conclusion, AP English summary and a couple briefs to write, but they're all writing so you get the idea of how that will go.

Three and out

Like the sports reference above, I will make this post quick.

I've been so busy with stories, clubs, assignments, what have you the last six days that while I'm writing this I'm still thinking about what I have to do after. My Multimedia Club starts next week so I must prep for that interest meeting, oh and I also have college recommendations, 2 websites, 2 other assignments, and several stories to write.

I am working on a couple sports related functions as well, I have to say that after I graduate from high school, I will leave quite a mark. Even as things get more busy and hectic, I still find time to screen movies, as I saw "Easy A" last night, which will make the cover of Teenlink tomorrow.

I still find time to hang out on the weekends, and I'm coming along well with my college apps. I guess it is the sleep deprivation of a journalist that adds to stress, but like journalism as a whole, it is the type of stress I want to have, all the time.

New seasons will be tested

Football is back and so is writing stories.

After about a week or so of waiting for sources, I finally got through on many things this week. I have an interview scheduled for tomorrow and only about 2 more stories to write before I can start the process all over again.

Mr. J12 and the Hurricanes will be tested in Columbus on Saturday, as I will be tested on the ACT. Let's hope both individuals do well, preferably to avenge that pass interference call that still gives me nightmares(this game and Game 7 of the 2005 NBA East Finals) during the 2002 Fiesta Bowl.

I also started Photography and Journalism classes at MOCA this week as it looks to be an exciting way to strengthen my writing and photography. Other than that, I am still working on College Apps, community service and my multimedia club.

Stay tuned!

A labor-less weekend (sort of)

When I wasn't working on college applications or studying for the September 11th ACT and October 9th SAT, my weekend was pretty labor-less.

I don't consider writing stories as work, since it is my passion, but how I wrote the essays were quite Ellinsonian (for those that have Mr. Kelly, they'll understand), as I wrote them in seemingly a stream of consciousness.

Anyway, there isn't much else to report. Sources have still not gotten back to me on developing stories but I hope get that done this week, especially with a light week. I was published in Teen-link print this week, something I didn't know about until someone told me. I guess when you're working so hard you forget to see what you've accomplished.

Since everything is online these days, I forget to check print, but it's a good thing all the college apps are online because print is so print. I must be too accustomed to the digital, high-tech on your phone type news.

Anyway, ironically I expect to be doing some Labor on Labor Day tomorrow, but I'll definitely get a chance to sleep-in, a rare luxury as a journalist.

Stay tuned!

The fall season of firsts

My first credit card. My first bank account. My first car. My first experience at paying for car insurance. Well, let's scratch that last one.

As summer finally came to an end, it is now the fall season. Between working on college applications or writing stories, there is alot to do. If anything, this Labor Day Weekend will be semi-enjoyable, I hope to finish at least two college essay's and also play some basketball.

School has been busy so far and it won't get any easier, although I am excited for the start of my Multimedia Club, which seems to be generating excitement on its own. I have already been approached about it, out of nowhere it seems and that's a good sign.

News seems to be at it's peak season, my heart goes out to those Chilean miners, I hope the situation doesn't turn into "The Lord of the Flies," though. Hurricanes are another issue. Do you know that 95 percent of all hurricanes occur between September 1st and September 25th? That's crazy.

My 18th birthday is also next month, which I seemingly have to remind myself to remember with how busy I've been. I will be "Going the Distance" to close out the year though, and no I'm not trying to get you to read my Teenlink review on it(well maybe I am), but I will accomplish all the goals I have set out for myself this year.

Anyway, it will be a busy couple months, but I will get it all done.
